Why is Revlon Candid so popular?

Hey yall

It’s been a month, maybe more since I’ve posted. None the less I’ve been testing some new products which includes Revlon Candid. What a week it has been here right!? But I need some happiness and something to take my mind off it so here I am writing about a damn foundation. Please know I am not avoiding or making as if these issues don’t exist I am merely looking to my escape, that I created, to drown  out the noise.

For me this blog is for sure an escape because life is hard, and if I’m being Candid (see what I did there), it is the hardest thing to explain to my 11 year old daughter right now.

So let’s escape shall we!?

I started using this foundation the beginning of August, and the first day I hated it. I swore I wouldn’t use it again. Then it hit me, I spent my money on this and have to try it some more and stop being a judgy a-hole. Ok so I tried it for an entire week and here’s what I found.

Revlon Candid

What does Revlon say about this foundation?

  • This skin-enhancing, natural-looking foundation delivers a flawless finish—all day long—as it hydrates
  • You get medium coverage that feels weightless and looks like your best skin!
  • Feels good with: anti-pollution, antioxidant, and anti-blue-light ingredients to protect your skin
  • Feels better without: oils, parabens, phthalates, synthetic dyes, and harsh fragrances
  • Available in 31 makeup shades

My opinion on Revlon Candid

  • Hydrating (on some areas)  and comfortable – Yes. Natural looking – Not at all, to me it looks very makeupy.
  • Medium Buildable coverage – Yes, this one is very buildable, however like on the first day, you build too much it cakes up.
  • Protection of the skin – I don’t know how that works or how to test it, but it’s good to know its there.
  • 31 Shades – True there are a lot of shades, the undertones though, I don’t know. I couldn’t for the life of me find a good olive undertone. The shades, possibly the ones available here, do not accommodate for all undertones. Which makes it very difficult to match. My friend and I went shopping for this together and she has the same undertone, just a deeper skin tone. And couldn’t find a shade at all.

This is like a sheer coverage if you have discoloration and things to cover up. And again you can build, but the more you try to cover the cakier it get’s. For me this was most evident around my nose, and I don’t get cakey there at all.

The Revlon Candid concealer

I actually don’t know how I feel about this one. Its not as natural as the Maybelline fit me, and not as full coverage as the makeup revolution concealer or even the Maybelline Master Conceal. I feel like its somewhere in between. This doe foot is also pretty unique and fits perfectly under the eye. I very much enjoy this shape.

Does it crease? Yes, it will settle into your fine lines. I would imagine that’s what the powder is for, but I’m not a big powder person so I didn’t get it. Sadly I selected a shade that is way too light but I made it work. I will say if you have very deep set eyes or very dark circles, you won’t like this at all. For a more natual, every day and minimal coverage requirement, it’s perfect. And does the job well.

For my dry skin, I did find it to be a bit drying, but that’s also why I love the Maybelline fit me. If you feel like that one is too moisturizing for you and you only require slight coverage, then I think you will love this.

So why is Revlon Candid so popular?

In my humble opinion it’s popular because of all the hype. I do however believe that the influencers who wear more natural and minimal makeup are probably sincere in their praise of the product. It certainly does that well. And as always the price is right, at R129.00 at the moment (and at launch), at Dischem. Other than matte and Poreless, this is a good choice, although it’s a little more pricey.

Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried this and how you like it, and you are welcome to be very candid with me 🙂

Have a stunning week beauties

  1. Thanks for the review. You haven’t led me astray as yet so I’m taking your word and not trying this. For a number of reasons as you mentioned here. Worried about my nose here. Lol.

Since you recommended the fit me, I’ve been using it and don’t have any complaints. That’s my favourite budget find foundation.

  2. Hey Hun sorry for the delayed response, I thought your comment was a ping back LOL!!!!

I’m glad you love my recommendation as much as I do. I think when this is on special it’s worth a shot or even test in store and check when you’re done with your shopping then decide, but it didn’t stand out to me.
